Privacy Policy
Last updated: 7 October 2026
- No accounts, sign-ups or advertising.
- No analytics, crash reporting or tracking SDKs.
- Your location is used only to find nearby stops and plan routes. It is never kept as a location history or used for advertising.
- Recent searches and cached departures stay on your device.
This policy explains what information the DepBoard mobile app (Android and iOS), its web version and this website (depboard.app) use, why, and who they share it with.
1. Location
With your permission, DepBoard reads your device's location while the app is open. It sends those coordinates to the DepBoard server to find the public transport stops near you and to plan routes from your position. DepBoard does not use your location in the background, does not keep a history of your locations, and does not use it for advertising.
You can decline or revoke location access at any time in your device settings. The app still works: you can search for a place instead.
2. Searches and route planning
When you search for a place, the text you type goes to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service to find matching addresses. Your location is not included in that request. When you plan a route, the start and end points go to the DepBoard server to calculate the itinerary.
3. Data stored on your device
The app saves a few things locally so it works quickly and the Android home-screen widget can show departures:
- your last few route searches (up to six),
- the list of nearby stops and recently loaded departures,
- the location you last selected.
This data never leaves your device. Uninstalling the app (or clearing its data) deletes it.
4. Services we connect to
| Service | What it receives | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| DepBoard server (web.depboard.app) | Coordinates, stop and line IDs, route start/end points | Nearby stops, departures, route planning |
| OpenStreetMap Foundation (Nominatim and map tiles) | Search text; map tile requests for the area you're viewing | Place search and map display |
| unpkg.com | A request for the map library | Loading the map component |
As with any internet request, these services also see your IP address and basic technical information about the request, such as the device type and time. Departure data comes from public transport operators, but the DepBoard server fetches it, so your device never contacts the operators directly.
5. Server logs
Like most web services, the DepBoard server may keep standard access logs for a limited period, for security and troubleshooting. These logs record the IP address, the time and the requested address, which can include the coordinates used in a nearby-stops or route request. They are not used to identify you, build a profile or track you across apps.
6. This website
depboard.app does not set cookies and does not use analytics or third-party trackers.
7. Children
DepBoard is a general-audience transit app. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Your rights
Because DepBoard has no accounts and doesn't store your location, there is usually no personal data about you on our side. If you are in the EU/EEA you have rights under the GDPR, including access, correction and deletion. To use them, or to ask anything about this policy, contact us at [email protected].
9. Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
